Sailors of the USS George Washington

The City of Newport News gives a GREAT BIG SHOUT OUT to the sailors from the USS George Washington who volunteered their morning to help clean up the beachfront at King-Lincoln Park. On August 7, approximately 50 sailors along with City staff, dedicated their time and services to pick up litter and debris along the Park’s shoreline. In total, the team collected over 100 bags of trash. The Washington, an aircraft carrier, arrived at Newport News Shipyard for a four-year overhaul and plans to work with the City to
complete a series of volunteer projects that contributes to making the City a great place to live, work and play.
