Virginia Came Together for a Cleaner, Greener Commonwealth
From the first day of spring through the first day of summer, Virginians across the Commonwealth rolled up their sleeves for the 2026 Greatest Virginia Greenup.
Communities cleaned roadsides, parks and waterways; planted trees and pollinator gardens; recycled unwanted materials; restored public spaces; and brought neighbors, businesses, schools and organizations together to make Virginia a more beautiful place.
As part of Keep America Beautiful’s nationwide Greatest American Cleanup — and in celebration of America’s 250th birthday — the 2026 Greatest Virginia Greenup demonstrated what can happen when thousands of individual actions become one statewide effort.

🌎 One Greenup. Many Ways to Make a Difference.
The Greatest Virginia Greenup included projects of every size and type, including:
• Litter cleanups along roadsides, neighborhoods, waterways, beaches and parks
• Tree, pollinator and community garden plantings
• Recycling and collection events
• Trail, playground and public-space restoration
• Community and business-district beautification
• Other projects that made Virginia cleaner, greener and more beautiful
Whether a project involved five volunteers or five hundred, each one became part of Virginia’s collective impact.

The 2026 campaign was especially meaningful as communities across the Commonwealth prepared to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.
Our goal was simple: help ensure that Virginia marked this historic moment by leaving something lasting behind — cleaner communities, healthier public spaces and a renewed commitment to caring for the Commonwealth we call home.
