Friends of Rappahannock Get 30 in 30

Friends of the Rappahannock in Fredericksburg has been awarded a 30 in 30 Grant of $500 in the Litter Prevention category. Our 30 in 30 Grant program focuses greater resources and attention on organizations and individual localities throughout the Commonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education. These grants are made possible by Altria and MeadWestvaco.

Friends of the Rappahannock seek to engage the community in the stewardship of the river with cleanups to remove litter and debris from approximately 9.5 miles of shoreline of the Rappahannock River and its tributaries. Their goal is to hold at least five River Cleanup events at 35 different sites. Funds received from our 30 in 30 Grant  will be used to purchase litter grabbers, trash bags and promotion of the events. A clean, healthy river is beneficial to the environment, improves the scenic value of the river and the habitats that surround it, and increases family-oriented activities in the area.
