McDonough Fences in Thirty in 30 Grant

The McDonough Community Garden is an 8500-square-foot garden located on a previously vacant lot in Richmond.  This community garden provides healthy fresh produce to its nearby residents.  The McDonough Garden would like to install an edible living fence to create a wind block, provide more edibles for its gardeners, and perhaps most importantly provide a wildlife habitat to attract nature’s pollinators; bees.  By using fruit trees, berry bushes and grape vines, they will not only create a beautiful functional addition to their garden but also produce fruits and berries for consumption.  We could not have thought of a better addition to already successful community garden than an edible fence, we are happy to provide McDonough Community Garden with a Thirty in 30 Grant of $500 to help grow their sustainable future.

The Keep Virginia Beautiful Thirty in 30 Grant program focuses greater resources and attention on organizations and individual localities throughout the Commonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education.  We provided the opportunity for government, non-profit and/or service organizations in Virginia to apply for one of our Thirty in 30 Grants of $500 in three different categories:  Beautification, Litter Prevention, and Recycling.  These grants are made possible by Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation and your financial support.
