Transition Staunton Augusta wins Thirty in 30

Transition Staunton Augusta (TSA) is a group of local citizens who’ve united to make a difference in their community.  TSA, along with hundreds of community helpers, transformed a vacant lot into the Newtown Community Garden with 13 raised beds.  They would like to incorporate a sign to showcase their garden and add some fencing to establish some permanence and safety boundaries as well.  The Newtown Community Garden established by Transition Staunton Augusta has accomplished so much to bring the low income neighborhood not only fresh produce, but also some much need community pride.  We are honored to help such a worthwhile group doing their part to build a vibrant community.  It is therefore our privilege to award them today’s Thirty in 30 Grant of $500 in the Beautification Category.

Our Thirty in 30 Grant program focuses greater resources and attention on organizations and individual localities throughout the Commonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education.  We provided the opportunity for government, non-profit and/or service organizations in Virginia to apply for one of our Thirty in 30 grants of $500 in three different categories: Beautification, Litter Prevention, and Recycling.  These Thirty in 30 Grants are made possible by Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation and your continued support.
