Chamberlayne Elementary to Ramp Up Recycling

Chamberlayne Elementary School in Richmond has been awarded a $750 grant in the Recycling Category.  The 30 in 30 Grant Program focuses greater resources and attention on organizations and individual localities throughout the Chamberlayne ChampsCommonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education.

The Green Team at Chamberlayne Elementary School started a school-wide recycling program two years ago.  They would like to add plastic bag recycling to this program and will use this 30 in 30 Grant to make this a reality.  Their goals include installation of permanent plastic bag collection sites, reusable shopping bags to distribute to Chamberlayne Elementary families, additional outdoor recycling containers to be used throughout campus as well as a field trip to a local recycling facility for members of the Green Team.  These much needed improvements would have a huge impact on the school-wide recycling program, in addition to providing recycling opportunities to their entire community.  Chamberlayne Elementary will become a leading community example for sustainability and good stewardship of our planet by producing less waste, increasing student, teacher, and parent environmental awareness, and recycling/reusing more.
