Galax Wins 30 in Thirty for Recycled Art Project

We awarded the Galax Public Art Committee, an organization based in southwest Virginia, a $500 grant for their beautification project. The committee will oversee the construction and design of a mosaic depicting local greenery. They will use old glass or ceramic items, donated by members of the community, to create the mosaic. They have already begun collecting items to be recycled for their masterpiece. Galax Public Art Committee will then team up with local artists to settle on the final design before beginning the project on July 8th.

Government, non-profit, civic, and service organizations in Virginia were invited to apply for 30 in Thirty grants for $500 to $2,000 describing how they plan to address Litter Prevention, Recycling, Cigarette Litter Prevention, or Beautification in their communities. Since 2011, we have provided over $145,000 to 195 projects throughout the Commonwealth.  This year, we partnered with Altria, Keep America Beautiful, and Deep Run Dance Marathon to make the program possible.
