Our First 30 in 30 Winner!

You may be aware that we’re awarding 30 Grants in Thirty Days to groups and organizations around Virginia that want to help us address the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education. We’re able to award these 30 in 30 grants of $500 to $1,000 thanks to the generosity of Altria and MeadWestvaco. Since 2011, we’ve awarded over $90,000 to 120 grant winners. Today, we’re pleased to announce our first 2015 winner.

Drum roll, please…

TWP – The Youth Movement has been awarded the first 30 in 30 grant of $750 in the Community Beautification category.

vpilot1“How’s it Growing?” is an urban teen gardening program where teens will grow vegetables, herbs and fruit this summer at the Vivian C. Mason Teen Center in Norfolk, Virginia. TWP supports teens as they build the garden and take care of it from start to finish. The garden provides a safe space and healthy environment for inner city youth. Young people begin exploring the roll of producers who are responsible for and capable of sustaining life, caring for the earth and providing food for themselves and for others. The garden is a small shining star in a neighborhood with a lot of rough edges.

Stay tuned for our next exciting 30 in 30 Grant Winner!
