Pennnington WINS Today’s $1,000 “30 in 30” Grant

The Town of Pennington has been awarded a $1,000 grant in the Cigarette Litter Prevention Category.  The KVB grant program focuses greater resources and attention on individual localities throughout the Commonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education.

The Town of Pennington is in the midst of an enormous town beautification project and one of their goals is to clean-up and prevent cigarette litter.  They will use this KVB grant to purchase cigarette butt receptacles for strategic downtown locations and to create an effective anti-litter marketing campaign.  In addition, they plan to distribute pocket ashtrays and educational materials to further increase the success of this new Cigarette Litter Prevention Campaign.  The Town of Pennington is partnering with the Chamber of Commerce, local merchants, area grocery stores, the theatre, and post office to help establish a huge community push to stop cigarette litter and prevent it in the future.  The Town of Pennington believes strongly that its beautification efforts depend on the support of the entire community.  For more information on the Town of Pennington or its project, please contact Tim Long at 276-346-4612.

KVB provided the opportunity for government, non-profit and/or service organizations in Virginia to apply for one of (30) $1,000 grants in three different categories: 10 grants for plastic bag reduction and recycling, 10 grants for cigarette litter prevention, and 10 grants for community greening and beautification.  These grants are made possible by KVB’s partners, Walmart and Waste Management.
