Big Brothers Big Sisters to Green Up Chimborazo

ChimborazoBig Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Richmond and Tri-Cities has been awarded a $500 grant in the Beautification and Community Greening Category.  The Keep Virginia Beautiful 30 in 30 Grant Program focuses greater resources and attention on organizations and individual localities throughout the Commonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education.

Keep Virginia Beautiful provided the opportunity for government, non-profit and/or service organizations in Virginia to apply for one of our 30 Grants in 30 Days ranging from $500 to $1,000 in three different categories:  Beautification and Community Greening, Litter Prevention, and Recycling.  These grants are made possible by KVB partners – Capital One, Waste Management and Lowe’s.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is committed to providing children facing adversity with professionally supported one-to-one relationships that help them reach their full potential, changing lives for the better, forever. They match these children (“Littles”) with caring adults (“Bigs”) to learn and grow together.  Chimborazo Elementary School is in need of a face-lift and they believe that by spending time together on this beautification project, not only will the garden grow, but so will the bond between the Bigs and Littles.  Big Brothers Big Sisters matches will enhance the school grounds of Chimborazo Elementary by restoring current flower beds and building a raised bed for vegetables, herbs, and flowers.  Many of the children who attend Chimborazo Elementary are enrolled in the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program.  This project will allow enrolled Chimborazo Jaguars an opportunity to learn how to plant and care for flowers as well as benefit from well landscaped and attractive school grounds. In Action
