Briar Woods High is our First Thirty in 30 Winner!

The Briar Woods High School Freshman Student Council Association in Ashburn, VA has been awarded a $500 grant in the Beautification Category.  The Thirty in 30 grant program focuses greater resources and attention on organizations and individual localities throughout the Commonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education.  We provided the opportunity for government, non-profit and/or service organizations in Virginia to apply for one of (30) grants of $500 in three different categories:  Beautification, Litter Prevention, and Recycling.  These grants are made possible by Lowe’s Home Improvement and your generous contributions..

The Briar Woods High School Freshman Student Council Association will turn an unused and weed-ridden courtyard into a outdoor reading and creative writing inspirational courtyard for students and staff to enjoy.  The students plan to not only plant native trees and shrubs, but also create seating for all types of classes to enjoy this natural space.  What makes this grant special is that students themselves have developed a plan, found community partners to work with, and will be the ones to build and maintain this garden to inspire future students at Briar Woods HS.  This garden will be a lasting legacy for the students, staff and entire community as they work together to keep Ashburn, Virginia beautiful for many years to come.
