30 in 30 is Up and Running!

Our 30 in 30 is up and running for 2014!  We’ve traditionally opened the grant request process in April to coincide with Earth Day, but this year have chosen September as the starting point for awards.  One of our key missions is education and many of our previous grant winners have been schools.  A fall 30 in 30, we felt, gives them a better opportunity to execute their green project, and then to see the results!

This has become an annual grant program, and if you’ve not heard, here’s how it works:

Each day for thirty days, we’ll award a grant of $500 to $1,000 to a group, organization, or school that has a great idea for a clean and green project, but need a bit of money to get things rolling.  Since we began 30 in 30, we’ve awarded almost $70,000 for programs and projects that have done such things as planted community gardens, produced educational materials, created artwork out of trash, performed cleanups and beautification, and started recycling plans.  It’s been awesome, and has helped folks from one end of Virginia to the other.  We also thank you for your financial support, because this helps to make the 30 in 30 Grants program possible.  We also have two great corporate partners this year in MeadWestVaco and Lowe’s, and we owe them a tremendous “Thanks!” for their generous participation.

There are a few different classes of eligible groups, and some different sorts of projects that we’d like to fund.  To learn the particulars and apply for your grant, head on over to our 30 in 30 page.
