SCRAP RVA’s Recycling Efforts Receive a Green Grant

Green Grant Award LogoWe continue announcing organizations each day in June for our Green Grants awards.  Congratulations to SCRAP RVA in Richmond who will receive a grant award of $750 for its Recycling project!

SCRAP RVA’s mission is to inspire creative reuse and environmentally responsible behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community.  They aim to reduce the steady flow of materials into the waste stream and promote the use of reclaimed supplies.  Their STORE provides a low-cost alternative to commercial stores and workshops.

SCRAP Gives Back event this Summer will provide upcycled school supplies at no cost to local pre-K-12 public school teachers.  They will provide an open-air outdoor space as the ultimate, upcycled back-to-school “shopping” experience. Supplies will include pencils, paper, crayons, binders, highlighters, and poster-board, as well as items such as colorful bottle caps that could be used as math manipulatives, Formica samples that could be used as classroom currency, or compact discs for science lessons. Area educators will be able to fill a reusable tote bag with supplies in preparation for the upcoming school year.

Every year, government, non-profit, civic and service organizations in Virginia were invited to apply for grants for $500 to $1,000 describing how they plan to tackle an environmental concern in their community regarding Litter Prevention, Recycling, Cigarette Litter Prevention, or Community Beautification.  Since 2011, Keep Virginia Beautiful has provided $254,500 for 320 different environmental programs and projects all across the Commonwealth, due to the generosity of their partnership with Altria, as well as additional support from Coca-Cola, WestRock and Keep America Beautiful.
