Mind Your Mother

Image made with rubber stamp and green ink that says "Mind Your Mother" with an image of the EarthWith Mother’s Day on the calendar, there are some things we might think about saying to our mom, like “Thank you,” or “You were right” or “I love you.”  We know we may have taken her for granted sometimes, that we may have contributed to her wrinkles and tiredness.  It’s also a good time to show Mother Earth how much we care and appreciate her beauty and all the wonderous life she sustains.

Here in Virginia, there is much to enjoy and express our gratitude for beautiful vistas at every turn, from the coastlines to the mountains, and for the 340 miles of the amazing James River!  We’re thankful for the shade of the trees in the summer and the fresh-grown crops we eat almost all year long — and so much more.

Just as Mother Earth provides so much for us, so too must we care and respect her.  So if you didn’t get a chance during Earth Month, now is a good time to tell Mother Earth that we love her!  That we’ll be more diligent to avoid single-use plastics, that we’ll buy less stuff, and instead repair and treasure our belongings.  That we’ll think about our abundance of things to eat, and we will strive to waste less food and compost more. There are many ways we can live more sustainably and be grateful for all we have in Virginia and on planet Earth.

So stick your bare feet in the cool grass or the warm beach sand, and breath in with deep gratitude.  Take a minute to see the beauty of her landscape, stand still for a few moments, and thank Mother Earth for the abundance of beautiful things!

And remember, mind your Mother!
