The Greatest Virginia Greenup is a statewide call to action to beautify the Commonwealth from the first day of spring to the first day of summer each year.
As part of the nationwide Greatest American Cleanup coordinated by Keep America Beautiful, Virginia communities come together to clean, plant, restore, and strengthen public spaces — from mountains to sea.

As we approach the finale of the two-year campaign celebrating America’s 250th birthday in July 2026, we invite every Virginian to help leave a visible legacy of beauty.
This is more than a seasonal effort.
It is a coordinated, statewide movement.
📲 NEW: Cleanup Reporting Made Easy
This year, we are launching a new digital platform focused specifically on litter cleanups to start.
The Keep Virginia Beautiful Network app allows cleanup organizers and volunteers to:
• Register and map cleanup events
• Log volunteer hours
• Record pounds of litter collected
• Upload before-and-after photos
• Track visible cleanup impact across Virginia
Other Greenup activities — including plantings, recycling drives, shredding events, and beautification projects — will continue to be reported through our standard online reporting form.
Our goal is to make cleanup tracking faster, easier, and more visible statewide while maintaining streamlined reporting for all other project types.
🌎 Participation Is FREE, EASY, and REWARDING
You can:
• Join an existing cleanup
• Organize a litter cleanup in your community
• Host a planting or beautification project
• Coordinate a recycling or community improvement event
Participants who report their results are eligible for weekly prize drawings and recognition throughout the campaign.
💚 What Counts as a Greenup?
Greenup projects may include:
• Picking up litter from roadsides, neighborhoods, waterways, beaches, and parks
• Planting trees, pollinator gardens, or community gardens
• Recycling unwanted items from homes and yards
• Restoring trails, playgrounds, and public spaces
• Revitalizing business districts
All project types are welcome. Cleanup results are reported in the app; other activities are submitted through our online reporting form.
