Substance Abuse Free Environment is Awarded $1,000

Substance Abuse Free Environment, Inc., in Chesterfield County will receive a grant award of $1000 for its Cigarette Litter Prevention project.   SAFE’s mission is to engage its community in working together to prevent and reduce substance abuse within Chesterfield County. Chesterfield County government has over 3,200 employees working at various government buildings, some of which have cigarette butt receptacles and signage placed in designated smoking areas outside of their buildings.

Funds awarded by Keep Virginia Beautiful will be used to add cigarette butt receptacles and educational signs for the designated smoke area used by the Utility Division, since those employees are essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. They will inform citizens about the Cigarette Litter Prevention Program, and educate the community about the problems associated with cigarette litter.

Thank you for helping us tackle the most frequently littered item — good luck to you!
