Belvedere Elementary Wins 30 in Thirty Green Grant

During the month of June, we’re awarding 30 Green Grants for groups and organizations who want to help us keep Virginia beautiful. Today’s 30 in Thirty Green Grant of $750 goes to Belvedere Elementary School in Falls Church for a Community Beautification Project.

Belvedere Elementary School is a Title I and Primary Years Program International Baccalaureate World School. The school, which supports a diverse population of 700 students, representing 29 countries of origin, will create a garden that will benefit the staff, students, and the environment. A stress-relief garden has been has been proven by academic studies to help relieve stress. Students will be able to plant, tend to, and be in the garden when they are undergoing stress at home, feeling anxious, or during the stressful test-taking parts of the school year. The school will use grant funds to purchase curved raised garden beds.  The students will be involved in the construction and beautification of the garden.

Since 2011, we have provided $203,000 for 260 different environmental projects and programs all across the Commonwealth, due to the generosity this year of our partner Altria, as well as additional support from Keep America Beautiful and Coca-Cola.
