Boy Scouts Heart of Virginia Council Wins 30 in Thirty

Heart of Virginia Council, Boy Scouts of America has been awarded a 30 in Thirty Grant of $750 in the Litter Prevention category. For the past several years Heart of Virginia Council, BSA has partnered with the James River Association in an effort to beautify and protect their favorite waterway, the James River. Their project, “Tireless James” has traditionally pulled over 1000 tires throughout the past five years for recycling and collection. This incorporates outdoor activity for the Boy Scouts, and an understanding of how important it is to protect our waterways. Funds provided by Keep Virginia Beautiful will be used for cleanup supplies, such as ropes, nets, and canoe rentals. This year they are actually creating an Explorer Post that will take place on the cleanup project, to learn about water preservation and ecology.

Government, non-profit, civic and service organizations in Virginia were invited to apply for grants for $500 to $1,000 describing how they plan to tackle an environmental concern in their community regarding Litter Prevention, Recycling, Cigarette Litter Prevention, or Community Beautification. Since 2011, we have provided over $178,000 to fund 230 environmental projects and programs all across the Commonwealth, due to the generosity this year of our partners at Altria and Keep America Beautiful.
