Frederick County Clean Sweep Barking for 30 in Thirty

Frederick County Clean Sweep will launch an innovative approach to an old problem with a program called “Walk Your Human” to raise awareness about the accumulation of litter in our community. It has been awarded a 30 in Thirty Grant of $750 in the Litter Prevention category. Participants will collect litter while walking their pet with the tools provided: a litter grabber, a pet waste bag and pedometer to measure their walks. Walkers are also suggested to take “Litter Selfies” to be submitted through a free online app that provides global tracking of results that are automatically posted to social media platforms. This program will allow individuals to have fun on their smartphones while taking a responsible role in their communities by reducing waste and raising awareness.Frederick County Green 3

Government, non-profit, civic and service organizations in Virginia were invited to apply for 30 in Thirty Grants for $500 to $1,000 telling how they are addressing these pressing issues:  Litter Prevention, Recycling, Cigarette Litter Prevention, and Community Beautification. Since 2011, Keep Virginia Beautiful has provided over $110,000 to 140 organizations throughout the state. This year, for the first time, we are awarding 45 grants because of the generosity of our partners at Altria, Keep America Beautiful, WestRock Foundation and Trex.
