Rockfish Hooks 30 in 30

The Rockfish Valley Community Center has been awarded a 30 in 30 Grant of $1,000 in the Community Beautification category.

Mallory Creek forms the northern border of Rockfish Valley Community Center’s 10-acre property. For many years, the creek-side was left unattended. The first task will be to clear the creek of debris, then remove poison ivy and invasive species from the creek-side that choke out native plants. Invasive plants will be replaced with native species of shrubs and trees, which will be identified so that visitors may learn more about the natural history of the Rockfish Valley. As part of their 30 in 30 Grant award, a second picnic table will be installed along the creek for families or small groups to enjoy the idyllic setting.

Since 2011, we have provided over $90,000 in 30 in 3o Grants to 120 organizations. Government, non-profit and service organizations in Virginia were invited to apply for one of our 30 in 30 Grants for $500, $750 or $1,000 in three different categories: Litter Prevention, Recycling, and Community Beautification. These grants are made possible by Altria and MeadWestvaco.
