Warhill High School Grabs 30 in 30

Warhill High School (WHS) in Williamsburg has been awarded a $750 30 in 30 grant in the Litter Prevention Category. Our Thirty Grants in 30 Days program focuses greater resources and attention on organizations and individual localities throughout the Commonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education.

We provided the opportunity for government, non-profit and/or service organizations in Virginia to apply for one of our 30 in 30 grants of $500 to $1,000 in three different categories: Litter Prevention, Recycling, and Community Beautification. These grants are made possible by Lowe’s Charitable & Educational Foundation and MeadWestvaco.

The “Refill Warhill” project at WHS is a simple project. They want to convert 2 existing water fountains to water bottle refill stations. Single-use plastic water bottles are horrible for the environment – from their manufacturing to their waste – and WHS sees this as a way they can make a difference in their community. The funding for this project really covers all 3 categories of the 30 in 30 grants; litter prevention, recycling and community beautification and we would like to commend the student body and staff for making a real impact in their community.
