Virginia Tech Scores 30 in 30

Virginia Tech in Blacksburg has been awarded a $1,000 30 in 30 grant in the Recycling Category. Our Thirty Grants in 30 Days program focuses greater resources and attention on organizations and individual localities throughout the Commonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education.

We provided the opportunity for government, non-profit and/or service organizations in Virginia to apply for one of our 30 in 30 grants of $500 to $1,000 in three different categories: Litter Prevention, Recycling, and Community Beautification. These grants are made possible by Lowe’s Charitable & Educational Foundation and MeadWestvaco.

Virginia Tech’s Office of Energy and Sustainability wants its football tailgaters to recycle! We applaud the Hokie community for taking a proactive approach to battling the litter and recycling issues from tailgating. Their plan is to construct recycle centers for tailgaters for not only collection of recyclable,s but also for plastic bag dispensing. They envision these plastic bags being used for the collection of recyclables, but if nothing else they may be used simply to collect trash. Either way it’s a win; keeping their campus litter free and/or increasing their recycling rates during their very popular college football games. We would like to commend the Hokies for putting the environment first.
