VMI Wins 30 in 30 Grant for Recycling

The Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in Lexington  has been awarded a $750 30 in 30 grant in the Recycling Category. This KVB grant program focuses greater resources and attention on organizations and individual localities throughout the Commonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education.

We provided the opportunity for government, non-profit and/or service organizations in Virginia to apply for one of 30 grants of $500 to $1,000 in three different categories: Litter Prevention, Recycling, and Community Beautification. These grants are made possible by Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation and MeadWestvaco.

The cadets at Virginia Military Institute would like to expand their recycling capabilities to a computer lab, a construction center, a health center and several locker rooms. They plan to not only add additional recycle bins but also positive sign messaging to accompany all new bins and some existing high traffic recycling areas. VMI already leads by example in green college practices with a number of programs and events.  We were very excited to see they still want to improve and find ways to create easier opportunities for their students and faculty to increase their recycling rates.
