Lynnhaven River Now Sweeps up Thirty in 30
The Lynnhaven River Now Community Action Group from Virginia Beach has been awarded a $500 grant in the Litter Prevention Category. The Lynnhaven River NOW (LRN) volunteers conduct over 12 river clean-ups and log over 1000 hours of time annually. In 2012, LRN removed over 1000 bags of trash from the river, not including the countless tires, building materials and larger debris they kept from reaching our state’s natural treasure, the Chesapeake Bay. LRN requested grant money to purchase safety vests for their volunteers. We are happy to be able to keep these dedicated volunteers safe while they are working so hard to keep Virginia beautiful.
The Keep Virginia Beautiful Thirty in 30 grant program focuses greater resources and attention on organizations and individual localities throughout the Commonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention,
recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education. We provided the opportunity for government, non-profit and/or service organizations in Virginia to apply for one of (30) grants of $500 in three different categories: Beautification, Litter Prevention, and Recycling. These grants are made possible by Lowe’s Home Improvement and your generous donations.
