Scott County Tourism Bags $1,000!

Scott County Tourism has been awarded a $1,000 grant in the Plastic Bag Recycling Category.  The KVB grant program focuses greater resources and attention on individual localities throughout the Commonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education.

Scott County Tourism would like to combat the Plastic Bag litter problem by eliminating the use of plastic bags by the tourism board.  It plans to use the grant funds to purchase reusable bags as giveaways for their visitors and residents as a greener solution to bag usage.  In addition, Scott County Tourism would like to go a step further and provide their citizens and visitors education about the problems and hazards of plastic bags becoming litter and that their value can increase substantially by reusing and/or recycling them.  Their reusable bag initiative would increase public awareness about the value of reducing, reusing & recycling and show their community their commitment to creating greener solutions for Scott County’s future.  For more information about Scott County Tourism or their project, please contact Assistant Director of Tourism  Jennifer Puckett at 276-386-6521.

KVB provided the opportunity for government, non-profit and/or service organizations in Virginia to apply for one of (30) $1,000 grants in three different categories: 10 grants for plastic bag reduction and recycling, 10 grants for cigarette litter prevention, and 10 grants for community greening and beautification.  These grants are made possible by KVB’s partners, Walmart and Waste Management.
