Russell Co. Environmental Control WINS $1K Grant

Russell County Environmental Control & Recycling has been awarded a $1,000 grant in the Plastic Bag Recycling Category.  The KVB grant program focuses greater resources and attention on individual localities throughout the Commonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education.

The Russell County Environmental Control and Recycling Department will use this grant to promote resource conservation by providing reusable shopping bags and multiple collection points for the recycling of plastic bags.  Russell County Government, along with the Towns of Lebanon, Honaker, and Cleveland, will work with Trex to create various plastic bag collection points and distribute free reusable canvas bags to residents and merchants with a message to conserve our precious natural resources, cut down on litter, and the value of using reusable.  For more information on Russell County Environmental Control and Recycling or their project, please contact Bobby Justus at 276-889-8145.

KVB provided the opportunity for government, non-profit and/or service organizations in Virginia to apply for one of (30) $1,000 grants in three different categories: 10 grants for plastic bag reduction and recycling, 10 grants for cigarette litter prevention, and 10 grants for community greening and beautification.  These grants are made possible by KVB’s partners, Walmart and Waste Management.
