Floyd Thompson Drive Cleanup

September 19, 3:00 p.m.

The Hampton Clean City Commission’s Litter Awareness Committee is hosting a cleanup on Floyd Thompson Drive, west of Magruder Boulevard.  This event is part of a series of community cleanups the group is conducting across the city.  The cleanup will begin at 3:00 p.m. and continue to approximately 4:30 p.m.  Volunteers will clean as much of Floyd Thompson as possible during that time.  To sign up, email [email protected].  Questions, call 727-1130.

These monthly cleanups are intended to highlight the need to clean up every corner of our city, offer volunteers an opportunity to contribute to community cleanup efforts, and offer potential Adopt-A-Spot participants a chance to try out a cleanup before committing to adoption.

Since October 2013, Litter Awareness Committee community cleanup volunteers have logged 86 hours, picking up 56 bags of trash (an estimated 1,120 pounds of trash), including 4,419 cigarette butts.  Sites have included Big Bethel Road, Downtown Phoebus, Eason Park, Hampton Roads Center Parkway, Phoebus Shoreline, Seldendale / Easterly Avenue, War Memorial Stadium, and Wythe Park.

Upcoming cleanups will include the Pembroke Avenue railroad tracks, Hunt Club Drive, Downtown Hampton, Armistead Avenue, Childs Avenue / Byrd Street, King Street / Little Back River Road, and Ivy Home Road.

Nominations for additional cleanup sites and Adopt-A-Spot sites are welcome!
