Gloucester Group Wraps Up 30 in Thirty

Park Partners has been awarded a 30 in Thirty Grant of $1,000 in the Cigarette Litter Prevention category. Park Partners in Gloucester wants to promote the correct disposal of cigarette butts at Point Beach Park. The growing problem of cigarette litter throughout the beach has created a negative impact on the marine environment, decreased its attractiveness for residents and visitors, and hindered economic development efforts. With funds awarded by Keep Virginia Beautiful, Park Partners will purchase unique Bait Tanks cigarette ash receptacles for use by swimmers, and portable ashtrays for use on boats or the beach. They will also have a kick-off event to distribute the portable ashtrays and educate both residents and non-residents about the importance of proper cigarette butt disposal.

Government, non-profit, civic and service organizations in Virginia were invited to apply for grants for $500 to $1,000 telling how they are addressing these pressing issues:  Litter Prevention, Recycling, Cigarette Litter Prevention, and Community Beautification. Since 2011, Keep Virginia Beautiful has provided over $110,000 to 140 organizations throughout the state. This year, for the first time, we are awarding 45 grants because of the generosity of our partners at Altria, Keep America Beautiful, WestRock Foundation and Trex.
