Stafford Group Wins 30 in Thirty

We are awarding our annual “30 Grants in Thirty Days” daily during the month of June. The Green Aquia Community Garden in Stafford has been awarded 30 in Thirty grant of $500 in the Beautification category.

The goal of Green Aquia Community Garden members is to attract natural pollinators such as bees and butterflies to encourage the growth of new, local flora. The plan is to purchase native plants from nurseries in the Virginia/Maryland area that will be planted in and around the organic community garden. Providing the right native plants will increase the presence of natural pollinators. In addition to making the subdivision of Aquia Harbour more aesthetically pleasing with a wide variety of native flowers and the butterflies they will attract, the pollinators will also serve to increase the harvest of the organic vegetables grown in the Aquia Harbour Community Garden.Green Aquia Logo

Since 2011, We have provided over $110,000 in 30 in Thirty Grants to 140 organizations throughout the state. This year, for the first time, we are awarding 45 grants because of the generosity of our partners at Altria, Keep America Beautiful, WestRock Foundation and Trex. Government, non-profit, civic and service organizations in Virginia were invited to apply for grants for $500 to $1,000 telling how they are addressing these pressing issues:  Litter Prevention, Recycling, Cigarette Litter Prevention, and Community Beautification.
