Bridgewater College wins 30 in 30 Grant

Bridgewater College has been awarded a 30 in 30 Grant of $750 in the Community Beautification category. Our 30 in 3o Grant program focuses greater resources and attention on organizations and individual localities throughout the Commonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education. These grants are made possible by Altria and MeadWestvaco.

The project proposed by Ashley Coates, a senior art and environmental science major at Bridgewater College, is to beautify the rear entrance of McKinney Center for Science and Mathematics, a prominent building on campus. The plan is to install native plants, which are generally less labor intensive and requires less maintenance than non-native plants. The area will provide educational opportunities on how to manage Virginia native plants, as well as beautify and green the barren area.
