Winchester Nets 30 in 30 Grant

The City of Winchester has been awarded $750 30 in 30 Grant in the Community Beautification category!

The City of Winchester will create a community garden in one of its public parks to provide affordable and healthy food resources to residents of Winchester. Due to the population and lack of grocery resources in downtown Winchester, this region of the community is labeled a “food desert” by the federal government. Creating the community garden with their 30 in 30 Grant will beautify a section of their park that is often overlooked due to the presence of litter and unmaintained grass, as well as provide an affordable food resource. The entire community is invited to attend and participate in the garden.

Since 2011, we have provided over $90,000 to 120 organizations. Government, non-profit and service organizations in Virginia were invited to apply for one of thirty grants for $500, $750 or $1,000 in three different categories: Litter Prevention, Recycling, and Community Beautification. These 30 in 30 Grants are made possible by Altria and MeadWestvaco.
