McLean School gets Final Thirty in 30 Grant

Keep Virginia Beautiful has been awarding “30 Grants In 30 Days” during June 2013.  Our Thirty in 30 Grant program focused greater resources and attention on organizations and individual localities throughout the Commonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education.  We provided the opportunity for government, non-profit and/or service organizations in Virginia to apply for one of our Thirty in 30 Grants of $500 in three different categories:  Beautification, Litter Prevention, and Recycling.  These grants were made possible by Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation and your donations.

We are proud to award our final Thirty in 30 Grant of 2013 to Churchill Road Elementary School in McLean in the Recycling Category.  Churchill Road Elementary School plans to expand their already successful recycling program.  More recycling bins and more composting bins means more students assigned to the school’s Environmental Patrol.  Their “full cycle” approach to teaching their students about the value of recycling shines through with their 90% cafeteria recycling rate.  We are more than happy to award them a Thirty in 30 Grant to expand their recycling efforts.  Who knows – maybe they can become the first zero-waste school in the Commonwealth?
