Thirty in 30 to Build Hoop House for Bridgewater College

Bridgewater College is looking to expand their student and faculty run community garden’s growing and production season by building a hoop house.  A hoop house is essentially a greenhouse with a rounded top and a removable protective coating, allowing an earlier start to growing and a longer season to maintain a garden.  Bridgewater is using its own students and faculty to help their surrounding community through their campus garden.  By building the hoop house, which will also involve more students through its design and building process, Bridgewater will create a sustainable edible garden for more to enjoy.  We are thrilled to be the catalyst to extending the growing season for an already successful community garden, and pleased to do so with a $500 Thirty in 30 Grant in the Beautification Category.

Our Thirty in 30 Grant program focuses greater resources and attention on organizations and individual localities throughout the Commonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education.  We provided the opportunity for government, non-profit and/or service organizations in Virginia to apply for one of our grants of $500 in three different categories:  Beautification, Litter Prevention, and Recycling.  The Thirty in 30 grants are made possible by Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation and the support of Virginians like you.
