Potowmack Elementary grabs Thirty in 30

We’re giving away a Thirty in 30 Grant every day during June.  Today, we’re proud to award $500 to Potowmack Elementary School in Sterling in the Beautification Category.

Potowmack Elementary School is going to expand their lunchroom recycling program.  The students, staff and parents realized that their school’s largest waste stream is generated in the cafeteria.  They would like to purchase recycling bins to segregate their recyclable waste.  They will then send this recycled waste to TerraCycle (a company that upcycles waste and makes new products from it) to earn money for their school.  These new recycle bins and the educational program that the school will produce will teach, not only the kids, but also the staff and parent volunteers how to separate all of their recyclables to be sent off.  This is a fantastic way to expand an existing school recycling program and we’re proud to give them the means in which to implement their expansion.

Our Thirty in 30 Grants provide the opportunity for government, non-profit and/or service organizations in Virginia to apply for one of our grants of $500 in three different categories:  Beautification, Litter Prevention, and Recycling.  These grants are made possible by Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation and your continued financial support.
